New Nordics AI – The Nordic-Baltic AI Center
The Nordic and Baltic countries have joined forces to prepare the establishment of a shared AI center. The aim of this initiative is to promote the responsible development and use of artificial intelligence across the region by strengthening cross-border collaboration. The Nordic-Baltic AI Center will focus particularly on the adoption and advancement of applied AI, helping the region unlock the full potential of artificial intelligence through joint action.

In 2023, Nordic Innovation brought together 23 experts to form the Nordic Ethical AI Expert Group, tasked with developing recommendations for advancing the responsible use of artificial intelligence in the region. One of the group’s key proposals was to establish a Nordic Centre for Responsible AI—a hub that would support companies in developing AI responsibly and serve as a catalyst for ethical AI innovation across the Nordics.(Norden)
The preparatory phase has now been completed and includes recommendations on funding models, budgeting, and governance structures. The next step is the concrete establishment and launch of the centre.
The initiative is coordinated by Nordic Innovation, operating under the Nordic Council of Ministers, with key partners including AI Sweden, AI Finland, IKT-Norge, and Digital Dogme.
Collaboration Opportunities
The center will be open to collaboration with stakeholders from across the Nordic and Baltic countries.
Its goals are to increase the adoption of AI, promote strategic joint investments, and strengthen the region’s international competitiveness.
